This edition of JFK Magazine the music band The Brahms is chosen to be part of the Prepare for Glory column. The Dutch band consists of guitarist Thomas Braam, vocalist David Westmeijer, bassist Tobias Moeken and drummer Martin Brummelkamp. The guys know each other from the Herman Brood Academy and started the band in 2014. They want to rule the world with their Indie Pop sound and we think they will! We have chosen The Brahms because they are the perfect example of upcoming heroes from the 21st Century.
Last year they won the Utrecht Pop Price, played several shows as support for bands like The Kooks and I Heart Sharks. With their mini tour through Holland they played on several stages, Amsterdam’s Paradiso being one of them. This year they released their first EP ‘Meraki’ and became 3FM Serious Talent. With many shows ahead we want to give this upcoming group special attention by offering them a stage in the Prepare for Glory column.
To create a signature sound they write all the songs themselves. While Martin gets inspired by listening to bands he likes, Thomas draws influences from other countries. When he travels, he tries to capture the atmosphere and sound of that country, and adds a personal twist to it. All four add different ingredients to their songs and everything together creates an own sound.
“We want to remain pure as artists, and stay close to the music and the people.”
Although the guys have a long road ahead they like to dream big, like real heroes! Playing at the main stage of Glastonbury (one of UK’s biggest open air festival) is one of their goals they want to achieve soon. A second EP, an album and a full show as a headliner are also on their list. They work hard to achieve these goals but want to remain pure as artists, and stay close to the music and their fans. The guys don’t have stars in their eyes!
